On Saturday, May 6, 2017, champions of the Hopewell Valley School District will gather at Hopewell’s beautiful Glenmoore Farm for an evening of “Boots and Bling” to celebrate the strength of its public schools and honor an exceptional set of teachers and a local business that has been a longstanding community ally. 

The event will run from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. and will feature a delicious menu of gourmet barbeque and drinks, as well as an auction allowing bidders to compete for a variety of coveted items including Walt Disney World "park hopper" passes, an autographed New York Giants jersey, and a stay at a Florida vacation home.

Bend tells the true story of two men interned in a Japanese American internment camp during World War II: Maeda’s father, an Asian Art historian who suffered from dementia at the end of his life, and the subject of his research, the renowned artist Isamu Noguchi. Using shadow and projection, theatre artist Kimi Maeda retells the story of her father and Noguchi, both of whom were incarcerated in a camp in Poston, Arizona. Referencing the landscape of the camp’s desert, she uses sand to create live highly detailed drawings inspired by these images. Both compelling and moving, this intimate visual performance examines the effects of losing one’s home, one’s cultural identity and one’s memory, and poses important questions about how the Japanese American internment camps will be remembered.

Sustainable Lawrence is hosting a Green Drinks, an informal presentation and networking event on May 6 at 7 p.m. in the winery barn at Terhune Orchards. Mike Winka from the NJ State Energy Office will present a program, "What You Can Do To Reduce Your Carbon Footprint."

If you are concerned about climate change, come and hear what you can do ­to add to be part of a cleaner energy system. Discover the ins and outs of energy audits, alternative energy source. Discuss the benefits for you and our community. Learn how to think local and act local. There will be time to get your questions answered about the latest programs and information that might influence your decisions about energy. Green Drinks is an occasional series held by Sustainable Lawrence and the Lawrence Green Team to foster conversation and community about sustainability issues.

Terhune Orchards wine and light fare will be available for participants. Terhune Orchards is located at 330 Cold Soil Rd., Princeton.
