Thursday April 6, 2017
7:30 PM

Anoushka Shankar, McCarter Theater at Matthews, 91 University Place, Princeton, 609-258-2787
7:30 p.m., After several stunning experimental and crossover albums (and five Grammy nominations), Anouska Shankar returns to her classical roots, paying homage to the teachings of her father, the great Ravi Shankar. Her latest release, Home, exemplifies the unique dichotomy between the ancient structure of the traditional raga and in-the-moment improvisations, showing both the meditative and virtuosic qualities of this classical form of Indian music. In doing so, Anoushka has taken up her father’s mantle, exploring modern and fresh ways to reinterpret and keep live the beautiful music traditions of her native land.
