POSITION TITLE: Assistant Art Director
REPORTS TO: Art Director
General Summary:
Assist
in overseeing and share responsibility for the overall
quality of creative products. Help coordinate the activities of various

Manages creative projects from concept to completion and translate

POSITION SUMMARY: Candidates must have an interest in creating an
exciting teaching tool that both introduces middle and high school
students to art history while motivating them to create their own art.
* Responsible for six yearly 16 page issues of
Scholastic Art. Includes organizing issue, selecting visuals,
writing/editing art history articles.
* Responsible for two (elementary & secondary)
teacher editions for each issue, including skills sheets, workshop
lesson plans
* Must meet all internal visual/copy deadlines
* Must stay within allotted budget
* Responsible for developing a strategy and
implementing a strong Scholastic Art web presence that
supplements/interacts with magazine content
* Should hold periodic editorial planning meetings; attend bi-weekly editorial strategy meetings
* Must attend marketing strategy/circulation meetings
* Must make school visits/ attend annual NAEA convention
* Responsible for answering/referring all communications re: Scholastic Art
* Should develop and interpret periodic art teacher surveys (usually two a year)
* Must set up a system to obtain reliable, ongoing
subscriber feedback in numbers sufficient to determine and meet the
needs of current users. Need to work with marketing dept to reach out
to non-subscribers in order to expand magazine circulation.
* Using market findings and subscriber research,
must develop a year-long program (six issues) to teach art, art
history, and meet art teacher needs. Must plan appealing, teachable
editorial calendar, choose eye-catching covers to meet direct mail
deadlines.
Requirements:
* High school/middle school art teaching experience.

gallery experience)
* General knowledge of art history, individual artists
* Lively, clear, accessible writing style (8th/9th grade reading level); ability to edit copy
* Some internet, web design experience
* Some familiarity with museums, galleries
* Must have leadership and communication skills

* Must be able to manage, meet periodic overlapping magazine deadlines
* Working knowledge of Word, In Design helpful

Office Manager: Oversee and act as primary contact for business
services including telephone, alarm, insurance, accounts, office
supplies, postage, copy/fax machines, messenger services, shipping
services, office furniture, car services, file storage, food &
beverage supplies, and others
Maintain all equipment: computers, printers, fax, phone system, A/C, and all other gallery maintenance related matters
Approve, record, and monitor invoices for all business services;
Prepare and present reports, recommendations and proposals to owner on
business services, cost tracking, etc.
Oversee and maintain stock of office, shipping and other supplies as required.
Serve as staff contact to Landlord and Superintendents as necessary.
Communicate with artists regarding individual needs during
installations, as well as pertaining to shipments of work; Help with
handling exhibition needs: Audio / visual, additional or specialized
hanging systems; Manage all necessary supplies are pertaining to
installations and de-installations
Responsible for backing up inventory system, image library and other shared information
Attend / work all openings, events and functions held at the gallery
Qualifications:
- BA Degree required
- Must have excellent computer skills (MAC), Excel, Artbase
- Excellent communication and time management skills required
- Must be extremely organized and proactive
- Must have the ability to work independently as well as part of a team
