The softer side....
Somewhere in the middle of September I let go of summer and embrace the return of autumn. Autumn is truly my favorite time of year. I love the changes to my wardrobe, my cooking, and my decorating. I move away from the crisp summery blues, greens and whites to everything awash in golden hues.
The change starts as a feeling and ends in a transformation on my dining room table kitchen table and fireplace mantle. I have always used gourds, pumpkins, pinecones, dried flowers, mums, leaves, branches and rustic bowls and vessels. It’s warm and comfortable.
This year I am thinking about the color palettes that are popular right now. If you have chosen to redecorate or redesign your kitchen or other common area lately you may have chosen grey, greige, or beige. How do the jewel tones of the season fit in with this color palette? You can make this work by keeping is simple. The colors in nature are plentiful, look to the muted, more subtle shades. The softer side of autumn may fit your home better and they will be just as warm and inviting.
Pumpkins and gourds come in white, and soft green. A contemporary glass bowl will look fantastic filled with pinecones or dried seedpods. You can mix soft browns, beiges and whites with anything to achieve and autumn look.
