PHS Junior Wins Prestigious Science Award

Princeton, NJ – Princeton High School junior Sreyashi Ghosh has been named one of 100 recipients of the Emperor Science Award.

The Emperor Science Award program is an initiative of PBS LearningMedia & Stand Up To Cancer and is designed to encourage high school students to explore careers in science, specifically cancer research and care, through a unique mentoring opportunity. Winners are selected based on essays detailing the need to find a cure for cancer.

"Winning the Emperor Award is such a great honor as it gives me a chance to execute my sense of purpose to help people as an aspiring medical researcher with the scientific knowledge acquired in school,” said Sreyashi. “ I am very positive that my generation will finally be able to find a cure for cancer and this award tremendously helps to achieve that goal.”

Sreyashi has a strong interest in scientific research and plans to pursue a career in cancer research. She is currently doing research on the side effects of cancer immunotherapy drugs. As an Emperor Science Award recipient, Sreyashi will have an opportunity to conduct research in a lab working with a scientist on a cancer research project .

“This prestigious award gives me the opportunity to make my dreams a reality. It will allow me to learn about the real world of cancer research in a hands - on manner by working in a clinical setting with an esteemed oncology mentor,” said Sreyashi .

Emperor Science Award recipients demonstrate awareness of emerging developments in cancer treatment, including precision medicine, immunotherapy and epigenetics, and have an impressive range of research focuses and interests, including nanotechnology and engineering, basic cellular biology, gene mapping, bioinformatics, DNA splicing and computational sciences,
