April 3 through April 28, 2017
Princeton— The Anne Reid ’72 Art Gallery at Princeton Day School is pleased to present the work of our Lower School artists in the Lower School Art Exhibit. This display of our Lower School art program is on view from April 3 through April 28, 2017. There will be an opening reception with on Monday, April 17 from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. for the families of the artists in grades PreK through 2; and a reception on Tuesday, April 18, from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. for families of artists in grades 3 and 4. These receptions are free and open to the public.
The Lower School Art Exhibit includes the work of more than 200 Princeton Day School Lower School students in grades Pre-K through four, and will be the culmination of the interactions, collaborations, and contributions the school’s youngest students.
This exhibit showcases some of Princeton Day School’s collaborative and interdisciplinary approach. Gallery Director Jody Erdman noted, “Last year when we showcased the entire Lower School, we brought together music, sculpture, video, and mechanical toys for a monumental event. This year’s exhibit will be equally joyous and celebratory with the fabulous work created by our talented Lower School students with their faculty.”
Princeton Day School faculty involved in this exhibition are Lower School Art teacher Thaddeus (TJ) Erdahl, US Furniture Design teacher Chris Maher, LS Technology coordinator Carol Olson, LS Art assistant Marjie Laughlin, US Ceramics teacher Stephanie Stuefer, and LS science teachers Aaron Schomburg and Carolee Van Dervort.
The exhibit will feature a variety of media, including painting, watercolor, ceramics, video media, mixed media collage, and sculpture, illuminating the variety of media our students are exposed to at an early age.
Ms. Erdman also said, “There is so much creativity in our Lower School that it is a joy to have their work in the gallery. Students take a direct approach with their art, which is uninhibited, unrestricted and liberating.” Mr. Erdahl added, “I strive to educate and prepare artistically competent, adventuresome, collaborative, and confident students who are comfortable thinking outside the box.”
The Lower School Art Exhibit is open to the public from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday when the school is in session, and by appointment on weekends.
