Princeton Online Press Release

Jillian Bonnacci CASA Supervisor

The CASA Superhero 5K Run and 1 Mile Run/Walk at Washington Crossing State Park on June 11 rallied close to one hundred local volunteers and several corporate teams to raise funds to help kids in foster care find permanent and safe homes.

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for Children of Mercer and Burlington Counties holds the Superhero 5K on an annual basis and draws participants from municipalities all over the region. “There was a real feeling of the community coming together to support our most vulnerable children by supporting CASA’s advocacy of abused and neglected children in Mercer and Burlington Counties. From the parents running with their small kids in strollers, the CASA staff and board member who ran the 5K, to the representation of runners across the life span – we had a great day to raise awareness of our mission,” stated Katherine Carmichael, Executive Director of CASA for Children of Mercer and Burlington Counties.

CASA expresses its sincere thanks to all the Superheroes who participated in the 5K Run and 1 Mile Run/Walk, as well as the corporate sponsors of the Superhero 5K:   Investors Bank; RWJ Lakeview Child Center-Robert Wood Johnson Health System; Borger Matez, Attorneys at Law; Garden State Trust Company; Jack Kemler, Mercer County Sheriff and John A. Cimino, Mercer County FreeholderSpecial appreciation also goes to Washington Crossing State Park Staff, Union Fire Company and Rescue Squad, Beneficial Bank for providing water bottles, Anna D’Anna, Race Director, and Wells Fargo Bank in Bordentown and HDR Architecture in Lawrenceville for their team representation at the event.

The mission of CASA for Children of Mercer and Burlington Counties is to train and supervise community volunteers, appointed by the Family Court, to advocate for the best interests of children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse and/or neglect. Our dedicated volunteers strive to ensure the emotional, physical and educational well-being of these children while they reside in foster homes or residential facilities. The ultimate goal of our volunteers is to help establish a safe, stable and permanent home for each child we serve.  You can learn more about CASA at http://www.casamb.org/.
