Hopewell Valley Arts Council Presents get smART Luncheon Learn June 16

June 16 @ 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Princeton University Prospect House, Washington Street
Princeton, NJ 08544 United States + Google Map

The first Hopewell Valley Arts Council get smART Luncheon Learn will be held Friday, June 16, 2017 at Princeton University’s Prospect House and Garden.

You’ll “Choose Your Own Adventure” by selecting from among three lunchtime speakers and coordinated after-lunch tours:

A. Remembering the Sounds

Benoit Cortet, international and local photographer, will take you through the lens with his experiences around the world as a portrait photographer, as Annie Leibovitz’s Assistant and Producer/Studio Manager, and as a commercial photographer for leading magazines. Cortet thinks deeply about creativity and the art of his work; his talk is sure to be fascinating for fellow photographers—professional and amateur, as well as  those who appreciate an interesting life led creating art.

Followed by a docent-led tour of the exhibit, Revealing Pictures: Photographs from the Christopher E. Olofson Collection, at the Princeton University Art Museum.

B. The Art of Thinking: Neuroscience & Politics

Sam Wang, Princeton University Professor of Molecular Biology and of the Princeton Neuroscience Institute, explains your brain on politics. Wang is nationally known for his Princeton Election Consortium (an election prediction site); the “Politics & Polls” podcast, which he co-hosts with Julian Zelizer, Princeton Professor of History & Public Affairs; and, oh yeah, for eating a live bug on CNN after the November election.

Followed by a docent-led tour of Art of Science, a curated selection of photographs and video images drawn from the world of science.

C. Princeton – The Evolution of a Campus and its Landscape

Devin Livi, Princeton University Associate Director of Grounds & Landscaping, will talk about the University’s history and grounds design, and the massive effort it takes to keep one of the world’s most famous campuses beautiful year round.

After his talk, Livi himself will lead a walking tour of Prospect Garden and the north campus. The campus and garden will be in full, early-Summer bloom!

Each program includes a private, catered lunch at Princeton University’s historic and beautiful Prospect House & Garden, the former residence of Princeton University presidents including Woodrow Wilson (FUN FACT: Wilson’s wife, Ellen, designed the beautiful garden in the shape of Princeton’s shield.)

Registration and self-guided tours of Prospect Garden will begin at 11:30. Lunch begins promptly at noon.

*Optional after-lunch walking tours will leave Prospect House at 1:45 and end by 3pm.
