Summer Programs at the Nature Center at Washington Crossing Park

The following is a list of activities being offered through the Nature Center at Washington Crossing State Park in Titusville, NJ. Some programs are offered without registration requirements; some will require advanced registration.  A fee of $5.00 per car ($7.00 out-of-state) will be charged to all motor vehicles entering the park for daytime programs on weekends and holidays through Monday 9/5 (Labor Day). Some programs are offered without charge and all programs will initially meet at the Nature Center unless otherwise specified below. Attendance is limited and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. An adult must accompany all children. In the event of inclement weather, some programs might be canceled. It is always advisable to call ahead before coming outThese events are available to families and individuals only. Programs for scouts, schools, camps and other groups are scheduled separately upon request by special arrangement. Phone : (609) 737-0609.

 

NATURAL DYES  (all ages)  Saturday July 1, 1:00 - 2:30 p.m.  Many interesting colors can be derived from wild plants.  Come out to learn how several of our more common plants can be coaxed to yield dyes for coloring natural fabrics and take home a few samples of your own.  Advanced registration required. Park vehicle entrance fee; $5.00 per car.

 

STREAM STOMP (6 yrs. – adult) Sunday July 2, 1:30 - 3:00 p.m. Come out for a wet hike as we follow a park stream in search of crayfish, salamanders, caddisflys, frogs, minnows and other stream inhabitants. Park vehicle entrance fee; $5.00 per car.

 

NATURE EXPLORERS (3 yrs. – 6 yrs.) Tuesday July 4, 10:00 a.m. This is an informal session of nature study and enjoyment for preschool-aged children and their parents. The activity of the day might be a hike, a craft, an aquatic program, an outdoor skill, etc.

 

NIGHT HIKE (6 yrs. – adult) Saturday July 8, 8:30 p.m.  Explore the park for nature at night and have some good old-fashioned fun on this naturalist-guided hike and campfire. Bring a flashlight. Enter the park from the entrance on Bear Tavern Rd (Phillips Farm/ Group Camping Entrance) and follow the event signs to the Nature Center. Advanced registration and payment required.

NATURE EXPLORERS (3 yrs. – 6 yrs.) Tuesday July 11, 10:00 a.m. This is an informal session of nature study and enjoyment for preschool-aged children and their parents. The activity of the day might be a hike, a craft, an aquatic program, an outdoor skill, etc.

 

FAMILY NATURE WALK  (all ages) Saturday July 15, 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Join us for an informal naturalist-guided trail walk. Park vehicle entrance fee; $5.00 per car.

 

POND STUDY  (6 yrs. –12 yrs.) Sunday July 16, 1:30 - 3:00 p.m.  Kids will use pond nets to collect and examine the various organisms that inhabit our pond.  Meet at the pond by the park service entrance off of Church Road in Titusville.  Advanced registration required.

 

NATURE EXPLORERS (3 yrs. – 6 yrs.) Tuesday July 18, 10:00 a.m. This is an informal session of nature study and enjoyment for preschool-aged children and their parents. The activity of the day might be a hike, a craft, an aquatic program, an outdoor skill, etc.

 

ALL ABOUT MOSS (preteens – adult) Saturday July 22, 1:00 -  3:30 p.m. This will be a brief presentation explaining the unique life cycle of mosses and lichens. A guided hike will follow to search for specimens. Park vehicle entrance fee; $5.00 per car.
